Nordic champions in MTB marathon were awarded in Mjøndalen, Norway
Hanekamp – Rypejakta Nordic Championships in MTB marathon were held on 15.09.2024 in Mjøndalen, Norway.
The Nordic championships in marathon were greeted with a beautiful morning in the woods of Mjøndalen. The first group started at 11 o'clock, and other starting groups followed swiftly from the starting area at MIF-hytta. The execution of the race went smoothly, and among the elite men Tormod Weydahl and Østen Brovold Midtsundstad (both NOR) broke free early, and dominated through the race. Tormod Weydahl managed to break free and Østen Brovold Midtsundstad had to focus on keeping an advancing Richard Larsén (SWE) behind. Theese three concluded the podium among the mens elite. I the female elite category Amanda Bohlin (SWE) took off from the start and never looked back, winning with almost 18 minutes margin to Emma Lyngholm (DEN). Tone-Mette Tømte (NOR) concluded the podium.
The masters male groups was a closely fought battle, and all riders that reached the finish did so within 45 minutes of each other.
The female masters separated more, but top three finished within ten minutes of each other.
The race got a lot of praise from the participants for offering a fun and demanding course that separated the participants with different technical and physical demands throughout. Eiker CK served up delicious homemade soup, fresh rolls, and beverages for all participants after the race. This was appreciated as riders mingled and enjoyed the various award ceremonies.
72 riders from 4 Nordic countries (DEN, EST, NOR, SWE) took part of the race.
